Job Description:
Job Purpose
Vessel Masters are responsible for safely navigating the route for Jet Boat Tours and River Cruises, whilst entertaining guests.
Special attention must be paid to weather and tide conditions for all departures.
This position works closely with the Marine Team Leader and Marine Operations Manager to ensure smooth, effective operational processes.
Key duties/tasks
- Carry out guided tours of the Trinity Inlet on 2x different vessels.
- General duties to assist the operation in reservations, Hire Boat dispatch, repairs and maintenance.
- Providing excellent service to customers by phone, email, and face to face
Other Requirements
- Maintain a ‘no-risk’ mindset for all tasks, working in a safe, methodical way.
- Always stay up to date with Maritime requirements.
- Always stay up to date with Ports North and MSQ requirements.
- Maintain a strong relationship with crew and deckhands to ensure compliance and safety.

Customer and Service Standards
- Demonstrate personal attentiveness whilst building and maintaining a friendly rapport with guests and team members.
- Handle customer concerns and resolve issues whilst on tour to ensure a positive experience.
Operational Performance
Whilst on Tour
- Carry out pre-departure checks on the vessel.
- Carry out guided tours of the Trinity Inlet
- Provide commentary during tours that is factual, interesting and engaging.
- Serve drinks/ snacks (River Cruises only)
- Manage time accurately to ensure schedules are being adhered to.
In General
- Adhere to all guidelines set out in the Safety Management System (SMS) documents for Carins River Cruises, Cairns Boat Hire, Bad Fishy
- Actively participate in regular drills as arranged by the Designated Person(s) and/ or Master(s)
- Notify the Designated Person of any damage or defects on any/ all Boats as they arise.
- Assist guest boarding and disembarking all vessels.
- Fitting guests with life jackets (for Jet Boat Tours)
- Re-fueling vessels.
- Assisting Hire Boat guests plan their route based on weather and tide information.
- Ensuring Boat Hire paperwork has been completed in full prior to each departure.
- Carry out vessel pre-departure checks (Hire Boats)
- Carry out shut down checks (Hire Boats)
- Regularly check and re-stock First Aid Kits
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance as required/ requested.
- Actively participate in regular SMS reviews, providing comments and feedback
- Serve customers via phone, face-to-face and via email.
- Cleaning duties of vessels
- Cleaning duties of the depot
